There have been some monsters in the past, sure, and there's always possibility for more in the future... we just don't have the same expectancy for them as those of you further west. That storm that came through, in the video, was a nice change of pace from the usual severe thunderstorm with hail a...

Oh sure, we get a few tornados each year. Usually nothing more than quick funnels from severe thunderstorms (not like those massive midwest supercells), but we certainly see them. I don't live in the area of that video but I was working nearby that day, and was in the path of the storm. Things got p...

If you slide the Play cursor back and forth between 0:10 and 0:40, you can see the siren rotate in place.

For what it's worth, I recall several thunderbolts in various locations on the Norfolk Naval base while stationed there. Also I know of at least one in the Portsmouth area, in the shipyards. It's been at least 4 or 5 years since the last time I've been to the base, but I don't imagine they've gone a...

I see. Never having lived anywhere more dense in population that The Sticks, there has never been a need for pull boxes and codes. When the siren went off, it meant "something is happening somewhere," and dispatch was never more difficult than "Fire, Jones Farm" or "Ambulanc...

Adam, would you know if there is any information as to which signals correspond with which code wheel number? Perhaps, that paper taped next to the cabinet? For example, 1: Fire 2: Tornado 3: Flood 4: Nuclear Attack 5: Curfew ... and so on. If each numbered code wheel represents a certain situation ...

Robert, that ditch could have been dug by now. I've spent more than my share of time running the hickory backhoe (that's a shovel, for those of you with clean hands) and despite any kind of underground surprises... rocks, roots, wires, clay, pipes, etc... there has never been a ditch that couldn't b...

Thank you for posting these, Daniel. While the interest is there, I have neither the capacity nor patience to modify siren recordings on my own time so I appreciate it when someone else does... for no reason other than "to see what it sounds like" :D The Thunderbolt Westminster is fantastic!
