Three Mile Island Siren Testing Update.....

Wasn't so sure if any members here lived in the TMI emergency planning zone (I know one or two members used to) and I haven't been on the forum in some time now. I seem to have found out that the counties in the EPZ do monthly testing, on the first Thursday of every month, at 8:00 AM for a very brie...

Anybody notice how the pitch of the 2001 changes at 1:35 when the power goes out? Battery backup in action.

If you take a trip out 581 near the Mecanicsburg exit (Carsilie Pike) About 3 quarters of a mile from the exit there is a P-10 that sits leval to the highway on the bridge!!! That would suck if you ran out of gas right next to it just as there about to do the test. that's actually the P-10 in my av...

Isn't a single-toned P-10 a P-15?

That's about the same dB rating as a Cyclone, yet a Cyclone has a 50-hp motor while a P-10 has a 10-hp motor. EDIT: If you listen closely to the audio recording of the Cyclone, after it shuts down and you can hear the P-10, you can faintly hear bits and pieces of a Federal 2001. The Penetrator in th...

They're 3-phase motors, I think the voltage options are 208, 277, and 460 volts. Not very efficient motors, and not suitable for battery backup.

THREE MILE ISLAND SIREN RECORDINGS A SUCCESS!

That's right! You saw it here first! I successfully got two TMI siren recordings. The first is a video of a P-10 in action. You hear a Cyclone and another P-10 coming in before this kicks on. It starts up when I start talking about the radio controls and the antenna. I say something like, "the ...

I just took a drive out there yesterday to grab some pictures of it. Indeed there is a Cyclone right near it. I don't think the P-15 was ever used for TMI, it doesn't have the antenna and radio control boxes that the TMI sirens have. Even on the abandoned sirens, they leave all the control equipment...

Who here is in the EPZ for Three Mile Island? I'm trying desparately to get a digital camera that can take videos with sound (mine only takes silent videos and can't record past 60 seconds) so that I can catch a nearby P-10. I'll also set up a portable tape recorder on my roof to catch my town's Cyc...
