Re: Quick 3T22 and Thunderbolt 1003 Question

The reason Federal kept the name as 1000 after the 1003's release is quite simple: consistency. When the 1000 was being designed, I doubt Federal let the amount of signals the siren could do dictate a siren's name. Take the 2T22 for example; the first "2" is named for the two different not...

Re: Is it possible?

Theoretically, a vertical siren mounted upside down won’t really have any serious impacts, unless the intake is on the bottom (like an STH-10). If not properly covered with a supplemental housing that would lead to ice build up if in a cold environment. A horizontal siren mounted so the ends are ver...

Re: Tagless Model 5 (How to find info?)

This looks to be a very early Federal Enterprises era Model 5 (single phase as well), especially as it does not have any holes cut in the stator top to attach coding gear. When you look on the shroud for a motor tag, also look for another large badge that says “Fedelcode” or “Federal”, as if it has ...

Re: Repainting/Restoring sirens - Questions

Can you post a picture of the motor? Most Model A’s made after the mid 1950s have a motor with two halves press fit together, and that makes it very challenging for a novice to open up. Believe me I know the pain of having an A with bad bearings! The best way to resort it is to take it apart entirel...

Re: Pentwater, MI village siren rebuild - what make and model and approx. year

Since there's been an update, I figure it's a good time to share what we have found. The proper name for this type of siren is 2 C 2 1/2 T (rolls right off the tongue, right?). Here's a picture of one I was able to get an ID tag photo of, another 12-port model like this. Darley 2C 1.JPG Darley 2C 2....

Re: Pennsylvania siren mystery

I can say with utmost certainty that these are not Decot; they never made anything horizontal, much less in a style like this. Last I remember I don't think there ever was a consensus. We're waiting on someone to go out and get some high-quality pictures up close if they're even still there now... E...

Re: MS-490 Advice

Hey Red! Here’s my piece of advice: don’t buy any MS siren. Those things are cheaply made, don’t last too long if mounted outdoors, and really don’t have any value aside from being a “toy” in the hobby (though sirens should not be classified as toys…that’s a dangerous game to play). In my opinion, s...

Fantastic! It’s great I see such a rare thing get into good hands! Now that it’s home, could you get some more up close and detailed photos of the siren? Certainly. What parts would you like me to focus on in particular? I can't disassemble it right now due to planning out my attack to avoid broken...

Re: An End of an Era - Federal Electric Mach. 3

Hey all, Sorry, there hasn't really been a significant update since removal. About all I got done was getting the top A-frame loosened up and attempting to remove the ID tag & porcelain banner. Thankfully the museum gave me a spare key to get in and try to tinker with it in the off-season, so pe...
