Re: Severe lack of siren coverage in the Washington DC area.

I found a functioning siren system in the DC area. It is used to warn residents around the mouth of the Occoquan River of incidents involving the dam a few miles upstream. I have only found one siren so far, a five-celled Whelen on the Woodbridge side of the Route 1 Occoquan River Bridge. https://ww...

Re: Severe lack of siren coverage in the Washington DC area.

To the best of my knowledge, DC's old system consisted mainly of Thunderbolts. The Allertors were added later, mostly in the suburbs, especially at fire stations in Loudoun and Fairfax County, VA. Only three Allertors still remain in Loudoun County, and there was one in PG County, Maryland but it w...

Re: Severe lack of siren coverage in the Washington DC area.

Arlington and Alexandria actually tried out an electronic system around 2007. They only had a few sirens in the most dense areas of the county. It was a Cooper Waves system which had both standard Waves speakers and a few generic DSA-like speakers. As far as I know it was last tested in 2012. Most u...

Re: ACA Allertors in Loudoun County, Virginia

I actually have heard the Philomont Allertor sound for a fire call sometime around 2011. I was at a boy scout event in a nearby camp, and 11 year old me thought it was super creepy. A staff member explained to me that it was in fact a siren. Were you at Camp Highroad? The Philomont Allertor sounds ...

So is that a custom housing then? The vents appear to have flat sides and there is no space between the middle and top vents, unlike the model 2.

Next to the town hall in Raymond, ME, possibly connected to the fire department down the road. Saw this in person a while back but forgot to take photos.

Re: Washington D.C., and another question,

Sorry for the bump. I was digging through some old photos of Arlington, VA and came across this photo in which a Thunderbolt is clearly visible in the top right corner. It was taken in 1988. https://www.flickr.com/photos/kinorama/4894943538/in/album-72157623355857077/ This location is visible in the...
