Re: Thunderbolt redo in my city

Looks great! Was the "second" pole and/or blower skid rotting and needing replacement?

The concrete pad-type installation seems more vulnerable to vandalism, as somebody could cut the conduit to the blower at night, but I suppose the risk of that happening is quite low.

Re: Are there any ACA P-50s in Michigan?

There's an incomplete nuclear power plant very close to Midland (ran into some issues during construction that made completion economically prohibitive). FEMA/NRC requiring nuke plants to have sirens probably spurred some siren development back in the 80s, but severe weather is obviously their use n...

Better safe than sorry (within reason), even if protocol is broken.

Re: City of Madison, WI Siren Decommission Schedule

Thanks for sharing! It's pretty neat that they have it all planned out, even though a "better" idea would be to refurbish all of them and reinstall them. Did they set the decommission schedule based on the sirens' installation date, replacing the oldest ones first, or some other sch...

Re: Soundmaster in MN

I apologize for bumping an old thread (finally getting around to reading them!): Columbia Heights has (2) Soundmaster 115's, which many people know about. A while back, I created a thread about Gibbon, MN's Soundmaster 125 . As far as I know, it's still in service, mounted on their water tower. I'll...

Re: St. Louis area siren enthusiasts: O'Fallon, Mo's new sir

The Thunderbolt in that picture appears to be the one that fell over in Salina, KS due to a windstorm. I remember it was a 1000 and fell down with minimal damage to the head, but I can't remember if the head snapped off the standpipe upon impact or was still intact.

There used to be a 1003 mounted right next to the 500.

Re: 3t22's being removed in Reedsburg, WI?

Why did they decide to remove the 1003 and not the 500? After all, the 1003 is much louder and I thought they used hi-lo for firecalls, but perhaps I'm mistaken.

Re: Working on buying a Model 7

They must be considering putting it up on the edge of town, otherwise I'm having a hard time figuring out why they'd want to keep it if they could make a few hundred bucks from selling it...
