Very nice, Henry! Could it be that Sireno has the widening ports to avoid infringing on Federal Signal's design? Just a guess... That is the first time I ever saw such a design. I don't think I've ever seen one of these babies in service out here on the Right Coast-- but then again we don't see B&a...

Thanks for the interesting views, Henry. Robert: Mars made a direct-drive large siren, the same size as a Q. It was their GD10 "Commander" siren; and yes, it rolled down very quickly. What a waste.By comparison, Sireno's ED10: their answer to the Q, was just slightly larger than a Q and w...

All of my Federal products have had the simple ball & ramp clutch. When acquired, some of the sirens were in pretty bad shape but the clutches were always in good shape. Always wondered why Federal when to the screw clutch. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v691/Henry455/Federal%20C5A/C5AClutch...

Thanks, Henry. Good to hear from you. This is, indeed, a different sort of clutch than I've seen from them before. When our small volunteer service in Lubbock was up and running years ago, we inherited an old ambulance that had a 77G on it. It had the old clutch (it may have been a screw clutch, as ...

Screw clutch parts are almost totally non-existing anymore. A friend of mine needed the arse'y for an old C4. I got one from Kevin O'Connell at B&M and it did the trick. According to Kevin, B&M sold the screw clutch to Federal many, many years ago when it went to the roller-type clutch it no...

Re: Sireno "Q" siren

One day I was standing on the hill and they had just taken a short break. I heard a funny sound coming from the front of the ambulance and went to investigate. There was a brisk breeze coming from the south, and that old Sireno was rolling all by itself! We actually traded the old siren off sometim...

Restored siro-drift

I found thing on google images. Nice restoration. I have two B&Ms: a chrome S-8 (no brake) and a CS8B. Both were restored by Kevin O'Connell, who owns B&M. Nice!

Sireno "Q" siren

I had one of the big Sirenos many years ago that I bought from an ambulance supply outfit in St. Louis for $150. That was one of the best deals I ever made. The big Sireno is actually slightly larger than a Q and will out-coast a Q. I was with a small volunteer ambulance service that provided standb...

Federal Interceptor

Federal built both the Interceptors and Directors from the mid-50s until the mid-70s...eventually replacing both with the PA200. The early Interceptors were labelled as PA10 and the Directors as PA5. Both had the monotone "Alert" function. Later modifications show the Interceptors as PA20s...
