Re: Waukesha legacy system

Very cool! When I lived there, the alertronics were dual toned. I heard most of them go off over the years. Obviously the one at West was not. The eows were also dual toned but obviously used the federal tone generator so sounded a bit different. I never knew that they upgraded the tone generators, ...

Waukesha legacy system

I lived in Waukesha from 1993 to 1999. Here is some background on the old alertronic system. I remember after a tornado warning in 1998, the local newspaper ran an article on the sirens and the issues they were having. I saved the clipped article, but can’t find it now. But I copied the highlights. ...

2 more. Balmoral and Ravenswood on a new pole.

Kostner near Maypole. New pole next to old siren. So definitely replaced soon after google came through.

Re: Orland Park, IL P10/15 Sirens Replaced

I was in orland today. I’m guessing every single siren will be replaced with a 2001. The t128 by the water tower at Sandburg is gone, it’s a 2001 now. Looks like it might be the same pole. The p15 on 151st is still there today, with a new 2001 nearby. I found some bidding documents that said they we...

Re: Orland Park, IL P10/15 Sirens Replaced

Simple answer is bidding. If a gov agency has to replace a part of a total system, like 1 siren, they can waive competitive bidding and buy the new equivalent of what was there. Same when they added the siren at Sandburg. But when they want to replace the rest of the sirens, it has to go out to bid....

Re: 2001-130 in Chicago

The sirens ran until the batteries died basically. It appears the system is fine. More damaging to the batteries than anything else. No, they aren’t rated for that, but they would probably be fine as long as it’s not a regular thing. If you think about it, these sirens only have 2 or 3 hours of run ...

2001-130 in Chicago

I saw a video on YouTube of a 2001-130 in Chicago that recently replaced an SRN. Has anyone seen any others that have been replaced? So far I have not, all the sirens I see regularly are the same ones. I’m wondering if they’re upgrading the whole system, or just replacing sirens that are having issu...

Re: San Francisco ATI system being silenced; possibly replaced

There was some techie guy who pointed out some vulnerabilities with hacking of the system a year or 2 ago. It might have something to do with that. But I'm hoping they will be putting in a new, better system. Time will tell. At least they take having sirens seriously.
