Re: Random Whelen WPS-3000 in Vicksburg, MI

Haven't posted here in a fat minute but I figured I'd chime in. This is a former Palisades Nuclear siren. When Palisades replaced their system in 2001, a lot of the old Whelens went to Kalamazoo County. Kalamazoo Township had 4, Comstock had 8ish, this one, and there were a few up by Gull Lake. All ...

Re: 2017 Indiana SWA Tornado Drill Day

For the morning drill we tried a 7V8 in Knox. Either both of the Knox sirens failed (the 7V8 and an STH-10) or the dispatcher who ran the test didn't know what he was doing. I'm leaning towards the latter. For the evening test I decided to try the new 7V8 in Elkhart county, located at the Osolo Town...

Re: Are there any Sentry Sirens in Michigan?

Colon has a 3T22 downtown along with an old Fedelcode Model 2, which is inactive. Mendon (next town over) has the Thunderbolt. Michigan is, and always will be predominantly Federal because of WSS.

Re: Finally, a town with some common sense...

Interesting video. It would make sense that they were lied to, no way those things have a 3.5 mile radius, especially during inclement weather. Also gotta love those shoddy installations with the PVC with weather heads used as the main run, with exposed wire near the siren head.

Re: Battle Creek ATI HPSS16-R Alert Test + Pictures

There is a mid-sized omni Whelen in the rail yard just east of Bailey Park. That's roughly 3-ish miles from where you were. It would make sense for a rail yard to be using whoop.

Re: Federal Enterprises 500 Siren.

Rochester did indeed have a 500 downtown, it was across the street from the courthouse. I suspect they had another, tower mounted next to the Moose Lodge. There is a 2001 on said tower now, but the tower itself was without a doubt installed way before 1998 when the 2001 was put up. I'm not sure what...

St. Joseph County Siren Inspections

I spent the past week testing all 67 sirens in the county, one by one. 13 were found to be inoperable. 2 of which just had a rectifier and new service disconnect installed and are waiting for the power company to bring 240 to them. Another 2 had blown fuses. 3 had fried radios, and the rest had some...

Re: What siren should I record in Illinois March 1st?

Come to Porter County with me for the inaugural test of their new ASC system ;) In all seriousness, I second Brendan Ahern's choice of a 2001 downtown. LaSallle and Hubbard in River North would be a good choice as well, lots of tall buildings. Another cool one would be the DSA I just recently locate...

Re: 2001-SRN Lydick, IN 2/4/16

A bit off topic, but is the 2001-SRN(B) in your profile picture the one in the bell tower? If not, where is it? The installation seems pretty interesting. Yes sir! Neat! Lucky you got to see close-up and personal. Not I, (although hopefully this summer) but these lucky ladies: ug_tYvR3GY8
