Looks like the intake has hinged damper of some sort. Never seen this before... Why you would want to do this is beyond me since less air means less dB output. Someone commented on the video saying "Too much airflow into the rotor with this design will bog the motor down and could possibly burn...

I'll be eagerly waiting for your recordings. True, not knowing how a Thunderbolt will sound like is definitely a surprise. It's not like an STL-10 or a 2T22 where you can expect a consistent sound throughout a system. It's even more so an adventure when Civil Defense (or your EMA) doesn't know what ...

Pretty rare to come across a first gen SD-10. Anybody have dB proof on how effective the resonating/reflecting band is??? IIRC, the threshold for pole installation deviation beyond a perfectly perpendicular line is about 10-15 degrees maximum for the SD-10, and STL/STH/xT22 sirens. Any "lean" beyond that, and you risk extra stress on its vertically-oriented motor bearings. Looks like that SD-10 is at the thre...

Top shelf ambient recording. You are lucky that your tests go on for 3 minutes.

I am in full agreement with Jason. Getting all your sounds in one place for easy linking would be great.

Thunderbolt 1000T (super high) last recording

I got around to recording the super high pitched 1000T at Moanalua Bay again, this time for stereo recording purposes. It's the last time recording this one now that I have a stereo recording of it. Still, by far, a very tricky and painful screeching siren to record. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A...

Hopefully his recording capabilities are just a a temporary setback. I was so unprepared for my first siren recording, and had pretty lame recording hardware as well. I did what I could with what I had at the time. I took on the super high pitched 1000T by the bay, not even knowing what is sounded l...
