VT Yankee's final siren test

I hope this is the right section for this, I apologize if it's not. This is for anyone living in or near New England: It's no secret that the VT Yankee nuclear plant in Vernon VT (not to be confused with Vernon CT  ) was going to be decommissioned, well that happened at the end of last year. No...

Re: Updated info for Connecticut Sirens on a Schedule?

Here's my CT map which also includes diaphragm horns and Diaphones, which also includes test times. It's not complete but I'm adding more as I find out. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=z3ghGZm_s2pE.kcGFYaeh5opw Did the Litchfield STH sound at noon? I'll update it if it did. Also Millstone...

Re: Why aren't there more videos of fire horns?

I'm curious, what are they used for? Cumminghams along with Diaphones were used in conjunction with coded street boxes to send coded blasts so firefighters could pinpoint the exact location of a fire just by listening to the horns. So if the horns blew 5 blasts, 2 blasts, 1 blast in a series of 3-4...

Re: Why aren't there more videos of fire horns?

While sirens are more common than horns here in CT, there are several Cunningham horns in service around me in addition to Diaphones. I recently got permission from the Wethersfield CT fire department to record their Company 1 and 3s Cunninghams from the firehouse parking lots during their daily noo...

Re: Whelan 2016

From the early 80's until 1998 Both Millstone nuclear and CT Yankee atomic had around 300 2016s between the 2 plants (as well as a few 2012s and 2008s) as their EPZs overlapped in spots . CY was decommissioned in 98 so most were removed and scrapped. A few still survive and are in service as fire si...

Re: Post your Mystery Sirens here.

I've seen this siren in person, it's way bigger than a 1. I think it's a 5 with a custom housing.

Re: Best Siren Ambience?

Excuse the bump, but I came across this little treasure not too long ago: http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/warningsirens/1003s_and_M_10.mp3 Of course, this isn't mine. Ahh the famous "bolts&m10" clip. This was recorded in Somerset PA by Steelman Hiles, at 2 am around 2000 when they had...

Re: Granfon MA 1003 hi-lo

I've seen the Orleans 1003, but I suspect it's inactive as it's in the same position on Google street view as it was in the pic I took in 2012. I know there's quite a few inactive bolts in New England, but those are the only ones I know that are still active, which is a treat in mostly Model 2, 5 an...
