Grafton MA 1003 hi-lo

One of the 4 only known active Thunderbolts left in New England. Grafton is about an hour drive from me, so I plan on making a trip up there soon, after I find out if it does any sort of test.

Re: Westfield, MA | Thunderbolt siren

I'm almost certain this is an inactive CD siren as the only active large siren anywhere near there (that I'm aware of) is the Holyoke Super Sirex, and that's only run up for grins. Only active bolts in MA (and in New England for that matter) I can think of is a 1000(T) in North Adams, and 3 1003s in...

Re: Old locomotive and possible fire horn

Those look like a set of Wabco E2s, possibly from an old locomotive. I know a VFD in Long Island uses 3 of them as fire horns in conjunction with a 5. Here's that those horns would sound like together (not my video, I don't own an E2 [would like to someday] ) LUVFksQ_cQg Skip to 1:13 to hear the ind...

The 596 is what I use to power my 6 and 12VAC horns. The 6 volt tap will work just fine to power it. An AC/DC adapter like the kind used to power most electronics will not work as it outputs DC not AC

Re: Siren scanner...

If you're looking to set off local sirens keep in mind that it's highly illegal and is considered a federal offence and you'd not be able to do so with a scanner alone. If you just looking to play around with a Siratrol (not hooked to a large siren) or making them for your own amusement any tone gen...

Re: Vintage siren photos thread

Crystal Lake VFD in Ellington CT circa 1947, with what looks like a Federal B on their roof. The building and the siren are no more as they now have a newer 8 bay station and had a WPS 2008 (with an ESC-864) until recently when it was removed.

Re: CT outdoor warning signal map

There's a Model 5 at an abandoned factory on New London Turnpike in Glastonbury. It was probably used as a noon whistle back in the day. The Flanagan industries factory is still very active, the siren is another story. It was most likely one of their old fire sirens and most likely did a noon blast.

Re: Dual Tone WPS 2740 Glastonbury, CT

I think I have a new favorite local siren. I recorded Company 4s 2740 which is still single toned, and could hear this one winding down, but passed it off as a mixing effect with Company 2s 2902 as I did when I caught that noon test ambiance last month. This was originally single toned like Company ...

Re: CT outdoor warning signal map

I recorded Fire Company 3's dual-tone 2740 today. Went off exactly on time! I also recorded Enfield's STH-10. Company 3's 2740 is dual toned now? Youtube user Tbolt1000 recorded it a few years back and it was single toned than as it was when it was installed. I was at Buckingham Park recording Comp...

Re: CT outdoor warning signal map

There is an old pole-mounted Fedelcode Model 2 in downtown Glastonbury, CT. Don't know the exact location. I almost forgot about that one. It's at the intersection of Hebron Ave and Main St. It's in very bad shape, the bottom cowl is almost rotting off, and hasn't been run in at least 30+ years (I'...
