The Siren Board

Most of the sirens I saw when I visited Greenland last summer looked like this, and the towns were well covered. In Narsaq, a town of about 3,000 people, I counted seven of these.

Looks like a Federal Model B with a bell below it.

Those two-speed sirens discussed earlier were an old Italian design. Many were imported to Argentina and are still built today, using a relay to slowly alternate between slower and faster speeds for a wailing effect.

Contra Costa County’s siren system uses a 12/8 second interval for emergencies and tests. These are not fire sirens.

That’s interesting. I’d wondered where those STL-10’s in Curry County came from.

As was noted six years ago, the former SONGS sirens were built in California by a plant engineer. They were not made by Toshiba nor do they resemble Toshiba sirens, which are found only in Japan and have either three or six projectors.

Thanks for another great video. It would seem that the plexiglas shield is mounted too high to protect it from rain.

Looks smaller, almost like an inverted Model 1.

Includes various motorized sirens plus some kind of horn.
