Re: What will happen to the TMI sirens?

Is there any other need for sirens in that area? Exelon decomissioned the Zion nuclear plant in Illinois many years ago and the old system is in place and maintained. They are used for weather emergencies and the towns basically lease them back from exelon. Seems to work out ok. This could happen at...

Pennington County SD

My wife and I went on vacation to the Black Hills area of South Dakota recently. One interesting thing is the siren system for the area. The county seems HUGE, so they do have a good number of sirens. One thing that is odd is the number of sirens in small towns. Take Wall for example. They have 2 sm...

San Francisco siren in English and Cantonese

I was in San Francisco for my honeymoon in November and heard the sirens go off while we were there. If you aren't near a siren, it isn't that loud, but we were also in the areas with tall buildings when they did the test. There are plenty of areas without taller buildings in SF so YMMV. Anyway, thi...

Look on the bright side. We will be able to tell the time frame a siren was built by the logo!

Re: Images Of The ACA PN-20 Siren In Romeoville Illinois

They took over a white 2001 from Lockport township. It will probably be repainted at some point. They also took over a T 128 in Plainfield. They also have a white mod and a white 508. Everything else is yellow.

Re: ASC E-Class Locations

Several universities have them. Cincinnati has 2. Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville Alabama has a few. Byron Nuclear in northern Illinois has a couple. Oak Lawn IL has 7. I believe the Phillippines and some of the virgin islands have a bunch for tsunami warnings too.

Re: ACA PN-20 Alert, Lockport, IL

Not trying to be nitpicky, but this is not Lockport. It is Romeoville. Lockport is further south and has no control over Romeoville's sirens. This is a great recording. I was out that way today and saw that some power line relocation happened a little east of the siren. Looks like they are getting r...

Re: Images Of The ACA PN-20 Siren In Romeroville Illinois

I had to go out to Joliet today and on the way home, decided to do a drive by of this siren. It was around 2PM. It will be gone by the end of the summer I would say. The siren has been there since the early 1990's. It has a Federal controller/radio on it since the rest of the system is Federal and t...
