Re: Another Toy for the Collection

I think everyone's missing the obvious answer. Get ANOTHER 76A and hook them both in series to a 12V car battery! ...Or maybe not, since DC motors use brushes to energize the armature, and one motor's interruptions won't likely align perfectly with the other one. I haven't tried it to know if it's a...

I don't, they were posted a long time ago. They didn't go off in the videos though, it was just a walk around looking at the siren.

Re: Two Chrysler Air Raid Sirens for Sale - WW2 and Cold War

The replica would be pretty awesome if he had fabricated the internals similar to the original. As for it being the last one in existence, there are at least two original Victory Sirens surviving in China, albeit with large electric motors in place of the original engines. I believe Jielong (Lion Ki...

Re: Old Plymouth Siren

Are we talking about the thing directly above the left column of the foremost building? Because that looks more like a street lighting fixture. Cool photo nonetheless, my grandfather gave me an 1838 bank note from Plymouth, Michigan years ago. It's neat to think about how old it was even by the time...

I just played with it some more. There was a flake of metal stuck to the end of the horn, which I simply removed with a fingernail. I also gently buffed the end to a shine with a polishing compound just to make sure it would make full contact with the diaphragm. It appears from slight wear marks tha...

The housing gasket is good. I can feel air coming out around the conduit hole where the wire passes in; should that be sealed, or does it matter? I have yet to take the diaphragm off to look at it. As for the projector, I had to use a wrench on the nut to loosen it the first time. Therefore, I don't...

This is very strange. No position of the horn seems to work. I ran it constantly while slowly turning the horn through its full range until it was all the way against the diaphragm (no sound).

It is also immaculately clean inside.

ARGH. :x

I made another video showing what I've tried, in case that sheds any light on the problem. Not shown, I also ran the screw through its full range with the horn on to see if there was a sweet spot. No luck with that, either.

I decided to open it up, and I found the contact adjustment screw. I turned it in small steps through its full range, and nothing makes it sound right.

Standing in front of the horn about 10 feet away, I mostly hear 60Hz buzz. It should also be deafening at that distance, and it's not very loud.

I made a quick video on my crappy camera. This horn doesn't sound like Dan's, so if anyone can give me tips on how it might be adjusted, I'd appreciate it.
