Re: Hello from Nebraska

I dont know whats in the big black box but I think it controls the 2nd siren not the one by the fire hall. I am 90% sure that the large black box contains an old mechanical timer, the same kind that Sterling originally sold to control their sirens. Given that one of the sirens in your town was made...

Re: Central Florida & Surrounding Siren Dicussion

There's no sign of Tampa's T-Bolt system anymore. But they did have T-Bolts at these locations: *Hillsborough County Courthouse *Plant High School *Gray St. north of Kennedy Blvd. **Possibly Tampa Int'l Airport short term parking garage-Someone on YouTube mentioned this T-Bolt is still there but I ...

Re: Central Florida & Surrounding Siren Dicussion

Found an article from November 1980 which says that "air raid sirens will sound in St. Petersburg for one minute signaling a parade and a moment of silence" for Veteran's Day. So, must have been more than one. What's weird is you can't see the T-Bolt on Bird's Eye view, but you can see th...

Re: Federal Enterprises 500 Siren.

And somehow we wound up with one here in Georgia. One from LA or one originally put in service there? Original installation from sometime in the mid-1960s. It's the 500SH-TT in Byron, GA that we've recorded several times in the past. It wasn't originally installed on that particular water tower tha...

Re: The Musical Modulators of Langley AFB make the news

I work at Robins AFB and we have modulators and DSAs. The national anthem they play in the afternoon actually carries farther than the siren tone. Yup, the music definitely propagates far better than the siren tone on those. I can sometimes hear the National Anthem playing from my yard on a calm da...

Re: Mobil Directo Installation 1965.

If i remember right, the pulleys were switched around the last time it was taken apart for service, so it rotates incredibly fast. Either that or the right-angle gear reducer was replaced with one of a different ratio. I haven't cross referenced another one to compare, but if the driveline shields ...

Re: Mobil Directo Installation 1965.

Siren is Still there as of today and was repainted too It also seems to have been fitted with a later-style fiberglass Allertor projector with the longer intake cone. Makes me wonder what happened to the original steel projector housing that it originally came with that required it to be replaced b...

Re: Thunderbolt 1000T Lansing, Michigan

Also the Thunderbolt at Sparrow Hospital is gone The one that was at Sparrow Hospital got relocated near the Transportation Museum that's somewhat near downtown to basically cover the areas where both it and the one on the Lansing Journal building used to be. I'm not sure what they did with the one...

Re: Encoder Identification Whelen

While I'm not quite sure the exact model yours is, I do know that Whelen also offered a similar encoder model with less function keys as this one has, which was labeled as the "E801" encoder. A fellow enthusiast and board member has photos of an E801 encoder, which are attached below. Have...

Re: Re-edited video of the only definate HOR Siro-Drone

There's at least two others, one of which is this: https://youtu.be/ZzGF5rARhqk One more here: 79-rErKgp3s ...and another: mzmwtb71VZM Most single tone H.O.R. "Siro-Drone" sirens have a narrow ten-port chopper, which (obviously) closely resembles the two nine-port choppers on the larger s...
