Re: Port Lambton siren test. CLM?

I'm placing my bets on a CLM or some other British-standard unit made in Canada. Darn, I just looked at the test schedules, what an inconvenient time to venture two hours out of town for. xD

Re: Yamaha Music Sirens

The Tenri University pool turns out to have a twin setup! I noticed the perspective between the two pictures seemed off for them to be photos of the same unit, so I hovered over the spot on Google Earth and sure enough there are two towers, each one with a siren on top. I wonder as to whether that w...

Re: Yamaha Music Sirens

Incredible that recordings and footage of these obscure beasts exist! I really love the multilayered wind-downs after each show; simply mesmerizing. Major kudos for being able to compile so much info on something we'd assumed for a long time now had been lost to history.

Re: 1993 ACA Sound Testing Photos

I know I'm a little late to the party, but kudos on the find! I agree with Uncommonsense, gems like these surface only once in a long while. Heh. Those photos were taken half a month before my second birthday. It's interesting to note one row of drivers on the Quadren effectively taking up two cells...

Re: What is your favorite siren port ratio/interval?

I do have a personal preference for single-tone 8-port sirens though, their wail and ambiance is elegant and especially spooky. I totally agree with your thoughts on the single-tone sirens. There's something frightening about a single low tone set to fast wail. As far as the ratios, it'd be a tie b...

Re: Sarnia, ON siren upgrades

Doesn't surprise me then. I thought their ATI sirens were doing fine, but I guess it goes to show. Hope Amherstburg isn't going through the same hassles with their system.

Re: Sarnia, ON siren upgrades

Here's hoping for a lengthy stay of the Thunderbolts, and if a replacement is in the works it'd be nice if a mechanical equivalent takes the spot. Now, I'm not certain on their holiday policy, but I sure was glad to be able to hear the beast go off on the 20th. Perhaps the sirens relegated to the de...

Re: Sarnia, ON siren upgrades

Oh gosh, that is heartbreaking! It sucked to hear of when they finally took the 1212s out a decade ago, but this seems like the final nail in the coffin for what was once a diverse system. There is a trio of Mods strung along the rail yard that the article may by chance be alluding to, but the fact ...

It's always neat to hear a siren with an odd ratio. That pitch is dizzying high!

Re: Sentry 40V1T?

Ha! Sounds like a Super Sirex. I'm sure the lower, single-tone setup carries considerably farther than the standard 10/15 ratio, but that shrill twin-tone howl is classic.
