That ship horn looks like a supercharged siren.... I see a motor! Great photos, and I feel cheated... I walked all over Ketchikan in July of 2007 (wow; in fact it was exactly 3 years ago this morning!), and never never found any of those sirens. I am 60+ so I remember all of the sirens below. Although the Sterling 30 sounds great and was a fine siren, my favorite is my C5, 8 port, 8" rotor and a coasting clutch. The Sterling would have been my favorite if they had made it a coaster. The Q with it's 14 ports is just too high pitched for...

Still disagree Jason, many pick-up's and 3/4-1 ton chassis cabs come with dual battery trays although only one battery might be installed and you could get dual alternators on Ford diesel pick-ups. My nephews new Suburban has provisions for dual batteries although because it gas powered it only has ...

You can't put a Q siren on anything smaller than large fire trucks, it would completely swamp the electrical system. There are several other mechanical sirens made besides the Q (Timberwolf siren, B&M siro-drift, etc). Unfortunately on smaller vehicles, electronic is still the only option.[/quot...

Not sure of vintage but it appears its in the Federal E-W class, 51/2" rotor dia. / 8 ports. Here are brochures on this class from a 1963 catalog: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v691/Henry455/Federal%20Catalog/Federal9.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v691/Henry455/Federal%20Catalog/Fed...

Charles, could not agree with you more. I am an old f_art of 63 years and had the privilege of working for a rescue squad back in the late 60's and 70's. We had 6 rescue trucks and all had mechanical sirens, Q's C5's or B&M's. We tried electronics but they would not move traffic like the mechani...
