Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

Back in the '80s, voice capability seemed like a great concept. It largely has proven to be ineffective. During tornado warnings, there were many people that were going outside to try to hear what the voice was saying. I remember the evening drive folks on 610 WTVN making fun of the siren voice.

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

I do remember a story on one of the TV stations about sirens malfunctioning in UA. Might have been around 2010-2011. I seem to remember someone commenting on social media about the siren sounding like a "European police siren"

Re: Central Florida & Surrounding Siren Dicussion

It sounds like St. Petersburg's last T-Bolt may be going away.

A proposal is on the table to sell the Municipal Services building to a developer who will more than likely demolish the 11 story building on Central Avenue.

Re: Central Florida & Surrounding Siren Dicussion

So it looks like Pinellas Park got its T-Bolt in 1961. It was on the west side of Pinellas Park elementary school.

Re: Original CD System for Jacksonville FL?

Only thing I know about Duval County is that they did have T-Bolts.

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

I'm currently working on a map of old siren locations in Franklin County. Does anybody know of any? Are you trying to do a map of the original system or a map of old sirens still standing? If you are trying to create a map of the original T-Bolt/STL system, I do have about 20 locations, mostly west...

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

The Model 5/7 might be in the tower of fire station 10 on W. Broad St.

The two Whelens on Cosgray: Apparently the northern siren was there in 2007 on StreetView. The southern one hadn't been installed.

Re: Franklin County, Ohio Siren Discussion

If you drive out to Cosgray Rd. in Dublin, there are two Whelens that are merely 1781 ft. away from each other.

What rational is there for sirens so close? There are sports fields but doesn't make a lot of sense.

Someone should get a video of those two Whelens.

Re: Are there any more Thunderbolts in Franklin County Ohio?

I remember as a kid seeing a Thunderbeam while driving with family in Newark once in the 1990's and I thought it was the most bizarre looking siren ever. As a side note, anybody remember seeing an SD-10 somewhere in Central Ohio? I'm 100% positive I saw one probably 25 years ago but I can't recall w...
