Re: St. Louis, Mo. and St. Louis County, Mo. siren history

I realize that the old T-Bolts weren't "jailbar" T-Bolts, but I'm just going by what the article online stated, that St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis tested their siren systems for the first time for the "Red Alert Drill" in January 1954, which I estimate that the 18 T-...

Re: St. Louis, Mo. and St. Louis County, Mo. siren history

Glist, that's the old Federal Records Building on Page Avenue in Overland. It contained millions of military veterans' records. The fire occurred in July 1973 and destroyed the top (6th) floor. That floor was removed and never rebuilt and, instead, was replaced by the new roof. The building remained...

Re: St. Louis, Mo. and St. Louis County, Mo. siren history

I remember all of the old T-Bolts, SD-10's and 2T22's that used to be in St. Louis County's old Civil Defense siren system. I don't recall any Federal Model 2's, but I do know that there were at least three Model 5's (or 7's?). One was in Berkeley at the old Berkeley High School at Airport Road and ...

Re: St. Louis, Mo. and St. Louis County, Mo. siren history

There is still one STL-10 standing in the City of St. Louis, though long ago disconnected. It's along I-64, east of IKEA, on the north side of the highway, up on a hill, near midtown.

St. Louis, Mo. and St. Louis County, Mo. siren history

I found an article online about St. Louis' cold war air raid tests. On January 16, 1954 at 9:45 AM, the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County conducted their first-ever "Red Alert" drill. This was the first drill using the city's and county's newly-installed sirens. 17 municipalities in t...

Re: St. Louis County, Missouri Federal STH-10

SiraTone, I watched that YouTube video and the still picture shows the Howard Bend Station water works building as well and a gray STH-10 can clearly be seen, but no STL-10. So it seems that one of the STH-10's really is "sick" with a bad motor that makes the siren's tone much lower than n...

Re: St. Louis County, Missouri Federal STH-10

Sira Tone, it's funny that you mention the STL-10, which I didn't even know existed at that plant, because in the video that I mention, it sounds more like an STL-10 than an STH-10, since it's the lower tone. So maybe it IS the STL-10 that's heard and not the STH-10. BTW, it's the Howard Bend plant,...

Re: St. Louis County, Missouri Federal STH-10

Yes it is an oddball! I would find it hard to believe that the powers-that-be that planned the new siren system would've "forgotten" that the STH-10 was there. I don't know anyone at St. Louis County's EMA to call and ask, and I'd feel odd if I did call. I checked the official online map o...

St. Louis County, Missouri Federal STH-10

I discovered a couple of days ago through a YouTube video of a Whelen 2910 monthly test activation (siren located in Chesterfield) that there's a Federal STH-10 in St. Louis County's siren system. At the end of the 2910's test, the STH-10 can be heard wailing away in the distance, just a few miles a...
