Re: New sirens; Columbia IL

I live in the St. Louis metro area and just saw your post and familiar with Columbia's old sirens. So I went online and found out that the City of Columbia purchased 5 new sirens, strategically placed so that 100% of the city has siren coverage, whereas the old system, installed in the 1960's, consi...

Re: Stevenson, Washington's Thunderbolt

Officials in Yakima need a "noise permit" to activate the siren?! Now THERE are a bunch of snowflake liberals!

Re: Vertically mounted thunderbolt blower

The Federal Thunderbolt 1000's that were installed in the mid-1950's throughout St. Louis County, Missouri (where I grew up) all had their blower boxes mounted vertically several feet up on the telephone poles that the sirens were mounted to. I've never seen any other T-Bolts with their blower boxes...

Re: Warrensburg, Mo. sirens

Wow, Model 2's; that's interesting to know. I wouldn't be surprised if the City itself had some as well. I was wondering if Warrensburg possibly had T-Bolts or other Federal mechanical sirens at one time since they're close to the KC metro area, and that's what they had up there. And since UCM had M...

Warrensburg, Mo. sirens

My daughter attends UCM in Warrensburg, Mo. There are three Modulators on campus, plus the city itself has several, plus two or three 2001's (in the city). My question is this: What sirens did Warrensburg have before the Mods and 2001's? I'm assuming they've had a siren system for a long time, since...

It's actually Adrian, Mo., not Adrain. Right along I-49.

Re: 1964 Civil Defense Matching Funds Siren List "The List"

The list seems to be right on, as far as what I'm familiar with in the St. Louis metro area. The City of St. Louis did, indeed, have 127 "615's", which were STL-10's. St. Louis County at the time had 18 "617's", which were Thunderbolt 1000's. All true. The list includes a few of ...

Re: The very last Thunderbolt model

I guess, from the picture, that these new Thunderbolts were all gray like the 2001s and not CD Yellow?

Re: Missouri's statewide tornado drill today!

I was in Warrensburg about three weeks ago. Took our daughter up there to tour the University of Central Missouri for "Choose Red Day." I was disappointed to see these Modulators, although I know that Warrensburg has two Federal 2001s as well, in which I saw the one at PCA Road and Highway...

Re: St. Peters, Mo. has replaced their last 2T22 with a 2001

The good thing is is that if the power goes out during a severe storm/tornado, the 2001 will keep blaring, since it's battery operated, vs. the 2T22 that had a power line attached to it to keep it going. And the 2001 has a higher decibel rating than a 2T22. Yes, it sucks that St. Charles County, wit...
