University of Minnesota siren system

( Edited the pictures to make them look smoother [/u]) Today I was pretty bored so I hopped on Google Earth to snoop around the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus to see what other sirens I could locate. As a Minneapolis resident I could’ve driven around there and took pictures in person but...

Re: Thunderbolt fixing up advice

Well that first RCM you looked at has quite fresh decals and internal schematics. If I was you I'd have covered it with something (if it wasn't already.) Secondly, if it wasn't done before, you might want to put a plastic cup or something over the standpipe so the blower lobes don't sieze up. This ...

Thunderbolt fixing up advice

Hi everyone, as recent as August I have acquired a 4/5 port Thunderbolt 1000T from the old Minneapolis, MN system, and anyone from Minneapolis it was from Field (2 videos of it are on YouTube when it was operational if you’re interested). Anyway, since this is my first siren I am absolutely clueless...

Re: Federal Signal Thunderbolt West Bank Minneapolis 2/4/15

I think it was discussed on YT a while back by someone... what I remember hearing is this siren is too hard to get down off the building so they are just letting her sing... or it’s owned by the university and they don’t want to get rid of it... man now I’m all curious too. It’s all owned by the un...

Re: Federal Signal Thunderbolt West Bank Minneapolis 2/4/15

Hate to bump an almost 2 year old thread but I have a burning question to ask about this Thunderbolt. I was under the impression that Minneapolis got rid of all of their Thunderbolts and replaced them with Whelen Vortexes. How come this siren is still standing? And are there any other active Thunde...

Re: ACA Hurricane 130 siren

I had a sneaking suspicion that the Hurricane 130 was replaced by a 2001-130. I now know where it was. I pass by it quite a lot. It's across the highway from one of the best Holiday Inn Express's I've ever been to.

Re: Hawaii air raid testing to begin Friday

Maybe a Tbolt recording through the new I Force sirens? Doubt it but those I Force sirens are talented and should be interesting to hear what function is used. I heard it just a little while ago in a video in a conference room, it's just a normal wail tone for the Modulators. They don't use I-Force...

Re: Hawaii air raid testing to begin Friday

Was just about to post this. When I first saw this I thought it meant bringing back the Thunderbolts since it said something about bringing back the cold war era siren sound, haha. Anyway, this is pretty interesting.
