Re: Abilene, KS Federal 500AT Test in Attack

Very cool. I knew there were a few in Abilene but I haven't seen any good videos of them until now. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Throwback! Gering, Nebraska Thunderbolt 1003

By "solenoid" he may likely be referring to a bad motor starter relay in the RCM panel. The older RCM panels didn't have fuses, such as this one from Houston, TX for example, which was manufactured in the early 1960s. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/55RgsYNCE6rTEGT3SDQZgk2wSGkNtv_8Ji4mRy...

Re: Throwback! Gering, Nebraska Thunderbolt 1003

Very cool pictures.

Upgrading the existing Siratrols to more modern decoders (like FCs) would likely improve the reliability of the Thunderbolts. It would cost much less than replacing the entire unit as well.

Re: Two New Whelens in Lewisville, TX

Yeah, they are kinda small. To me they appeared to be the same size as the other type I cabinets on the rest of the Vortex-R sirens, but it's been awhile since I've seen another type I enclosure up close in person so I could be wrong.

Two New Whelens in Lewisville, TX

Lewisville has started adding more sirens to their system to fill in coverage gaps back in early March. I noticed the first new location go in on the south end of the landfill on F.M. 3040 and S. Railroad St. since I drive through this intersection at least twice a week. There aren't any good places...

Re: Greenville, TX Hurricane

So Greenville has no active system? IIRC, weren't Greenville's ATIs replaced with Whelens? You're probably thinking of Garland, they've had a very similar history to Greenville as far as sirens are concerned. They had Hurricanes which were replaced by ATIs which were replaced by Whelens. I don't re...

Re: Greenville, TX Hurricane

I don't think it's still active anymore. It still has a power connection, the service disconnect it on, and the horn is always in a different position when I see it in person (or see a picture of it). However, it didn't make a peep when I went out to record it, and the city doesn't know anything abo...

Re: 508 problems, failures, flaws

I would also recommend continuing to work this out with Federal Signal since they have mentioned rebuilding them as a possible solution. Speaking strictly from a hobbyist perspective (since I don't own or maintain this particular model) I have noticed the same issues you have previously mentioned in...
