I work at Robins AFB and we have modulators and DSAs. The national anthem they play in the afternoon actually carries farther than the siren tone.

Whelen has improved their sirens a LOT over the past 10 years. The orange drivers and the 2030 logic board were the two biggest improvements. They are fairly reliable sirens, but the older ones are prone to their quirks (2020 board) and the rotator can be somewhat fragile, especially the belt drive ...

First question, does it run? I know they were asking an absurd amount for it on ebay.

The lack of a housing really affects the value, and their isn't much value for them unless they are the smaller sirens (like the model 2) or the larger ones that are getting rebuilt and put back into service.

Far as I know what killed most of the 500 sirens was rotator failure, either from the gearbox placement (oil sitting on top of a seal) or that damn belt that required splitting the siren in half to replace. I really haven't heard of any motor failures on those, most of them seemed to be the victim o...

This siren is actually bigger than I thought it was going to be. It has a 16 inch rotor vs the 14 inch rotor of a 2001. The horns are pretty neat, they definitely work. I'm going to overhaul it and rewire the control circuit since I'm not using the compulert, which is overly complicated.
