The model 2 is in Edison, which, at one time, was peppered with them. I remember one on Miko Road and Ashley Road, about a mile away as the crow flies. There were sirens all over the township. And horns (diaphones) too. And there were several model 5/7's too. The street sirens have been disconnected...

re. Farmingdale - the ACA Screamer has been supplanted by a Vintage Federal Model 5, and East Farmingdale has TWO Thunderbolts - one at HQ (Conklin St) and the other at Crown Manor Sta.2 Wellwood Ave just S of the Southern State Pkwy. Oh yes, Farmingdale Village also has a (yes, smite me) superb Gam...

Thanks for the info! I am sure more will come to mind over time. Now that you mention the Allertor - I remember seeing one on top of some (it was a white) building on the north side of the Mall, perhaps around 4th St NW. That's the only one I can remember in the District. At least one of those Alexa...

Former DC Thunderbolt locations

I am trying to make a master list of locations in and around Washington DC where civil defense sirens were located. If anybody has a list, or knows of locations where these sirens (mostly Thunderbolts) were located, I would greatly appreciate that. Here are ones I know/knew of: 9th & F St NW 15t...

Beautiful pics! I like the Darleys, they bring back fond memories of my youth in Nassau County NY when I heard a couple of these puppies in Mineola, NY. You wouldn't be anywhere near Kimball, SD, would you? I know this is a siren board (and I expect to be smitten for saying this), but rumour has it ...

Nice pics! Those two Sterlings - very similar indeed to their Darley counterparts, especially the K-2. There was a siren exactly like this in Mineola NY.

On the garden state parkway, I remember right before Newark airport, there is a power station/ fuel refinery type of place with a yellow thunderbolt that can be seen perfectly from the parkway That's actually the New Jersey Turnpike, just north of Exit 13. That's a remnant of Elizabeth's "fore...

Thanks for the info regarding Shelton. I saw Co.3 (Huntington) in Google street view, and it appears that there are no fewer than three (3) horns, and they all appear to be diaphones. I couldn't see round the fourth side. I've never heard of FOUR diaphones in one spot, but I have seen three. Company...
