They were definitely speakers, not air horns. I may have found them on Google maps, although it's very hard to see. I believe they are near the lower right corner of the light gray structure at center. From my vague memory, this seems correct.

I believe that the long horns in the first photo are probably antique outdoor speaker horns. The Germans used horns like this in the 1930's for sound trucks and outdoor rallies. I didn't know they had them in this country. Those definitely look like 1930s PA horns. I have a radio servicing book fro...

Looks just like this siren, which has been discussed before. Nice find! http://www.ci.larkspur.ca.us/FireHornSl ... show10.jpg

I don't think I've seen that one. Thanks! Here's another video with less distortion in the sound. I don't hang out in this forum much, so my apologies if it's already old stuff. I like how people start to step away as he revs it up! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCivOpWhOP0 http://www.youtube.com/w...

I'd imagine that shaft-sleeve (for lack of a proper term) shape would make the rotor stronger by reducing stress areas than if it simply made a right angle at the back of the rotor.

If they even got a chance to grab something, that would sure make them drop it as they instinctively covered their ears!

I have a 1991 RS Convertible with the 305cid V8. Unfortunately it's in the shop right now for a timing problem. I think the timing chain was about to give up the ghost, which could have been very bad.

The signature line is in reference to a funny song by the Dead Milkmen.

Welcome! It's always nice to see a fellow Oregonian on the board. It's a shame they took that siren out of service, as I had yet to find myself in Pendleton at noon to hear it. :(

I'm glad you got your hands on it instead of it going to the scrap yard.

Edit: Looks like I was beaten to the punch, here it is anyway. Here's the picture. As to my guess, I really have no idea. Could be an air horn system, or an almost hornless STL/STH-10 siren with the vertical piece being the motor. The picture is too blurry to tell. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/...

I may be dense, but is there still a sound file of that on the site? Neither link shown goes to one.
