The Official Brandeis University Siren Thread

It's great that I have my Digital Rebel, because now I can actually take decent pictures of my school's sirens! Just to make this a bit easier to understand...Brandeis is laid out in an extremely linear fashion, covering most of a large hill. There are definite upper and lower, north and south parts...

I'm definitely too young to remember the days when these were used in stores. With all due respect, campus warning sirens sounding for a fire is about the worst idea I've ever heard. Do you have any idea how often college students accidentally trigger fire alarms? People would get incredibly annoyed...

Thanks Daniel! I kind of figured that after I reached up and tapped the chime part and it made a chimey sort of noise. I should ask the public safety director when the system in that building will be tested so I can get a video of the bells and chimes in action. I went and looked around more buildin...

There is an HOR Super Sirex in West Newton, MA. It's on top of a fire station (corner of Richardson and Church Streets) right next to I-90/ Mass Pike, right before/after the Sheraton that's built over the highway. It's only a few miles away (sort of) from where I am now. But there's really no way I ...

I must admit, the tone was a pleasant surprise for me too. And also, though everyone in our community hates ATI, Brandeis chose them for a good reason. I actually personally spoke to the director of Public Safety about it. They made a good presentation (apparently someone else, I think the ASC rep, ...

Brandeis University siren test

Two videos showing the Brandeis University siren tests of September 9, 2009. We have an ATI system, and you're basically hearing two different sirens in these videos. I apologize for my constant talking so close to the mic. I suppose I was just excited, this being my first true siren test recording....

Unusual older fire alarm stuff of Brandeis University

My school dates back to 1948, and the vast majority of campus buildings were constructed during the 60's and except for elaborate computer/projector apparatus in all rooms and new desks in most, they haven't changed much since they were built. Here is some of the old fire alarm stuff in a few academ...

I have a picture of that on-display cyclone a book. Before I knew what a Cyclone was, I used to think it was some kind of decommissioned turbine from the power plant itself.

A while back in this thread, someone told me about (and posted a picture of) a Model 5 in New Hartford, CT that was actually mounted up in a cell tower. I always assumed I knew where it was and had hoped to see it for the first time today, but wound up traveling through New Hartford by a different r...

Talk about redundant! I can only imagine the amount of sound they produce together. Maybe one is used for one tone while the other runs another (or does voice) simultaneously. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's basically the only possibility I can think of. Still seems like a huge waste of money,...
