Indeed it's a dualtone 8/16 port ratio Sterling M-10 (same company as present-day Sentry) with slight audio distortion de-emphasizing the higher register.

Too bad you never grew up with two grand old Sterling M-10s within a mile and a half of your house...same FD BTW.

The sound of them going off at three AM in the humidity of summer was like no other.

I recall reading in a website's (mebbe the old ASC/ACA official cite) old T-135/Cyclone section that the Cyclone was manufactured for use in other parts of the world.

I think I read from some info here that the M-10 is +/-115 dB @ 100' from the source.

I do believe it's the Sterling. Fed 5's don't reach that pitch, plus the cycle is slower and the timbre is not Federal quality...for lack of a better term. Great recording nonetheless. Edit: The cycle timing can vary greatly among Fed 3/5/7 models, so that's excluded. IMO the other 2 characteristics...

There used to be one in the hamlet jut south of where I live. One of the reasons why it sounded so close for being a bit over a mile away was that they decided to install it at ground level.

The windup rate is just right for an xt22. The tone is just right for the lower intake of the same model.
