Nice pic, but again I call attention where some of these sirens are placed. Looks like this siren could easily be taken out by train if one came off the track and the tree will eventually grow into the siren. Seems with all the open area around this is a poor choice to place the pole.

Here's the only siren that I could get a pic of where you can clearly see the cooling towers in the background, the others that are closer have tree's in the way or houses. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd151/EL1998P71/Siren%20Pics/Southern%20Michigan%20Sirens/M187.jpg Once again I call attent...

I too am surprised they put the new siren that close to the playground. Yeah, the 5000At was right there, but it was not as loud nor high pitched. The pole isn't RiGht next to the fence, and that is standard height for controls on sirens in Shawnee County. LOL, in 1966 the City of Lansing put a a T...

Jackson City and County Michigan, MI. 3 to 5 minute alert for tornado warnings although in bad storms OEM have set the sirens off more than once. Test, 1 minute in alert no attack test on first Saturday of the month at noon (if they remember and I don't they test in the winter anymore). Some of the ...

ATI sirens are just pathetic. I agree 100%! The Crieve Hall School ATI is about 1/2 mile("as the crow flies") from my house. There have been some test days when I never heard it. If the wind is blowing the right direction or atmospheric conditions are right, I can hear it. However, that h...

Re: Radio activation

I've always noticed around here, and on videos, that when sirens are activated you here each individual siren winding up a few seconds apart from each other. I always thought that one signal was sent out to all the sirens, but if that was the case wouldn't they all activate at once? When dispatch t...

My home town had an encoder very much like that for their air horn system, except that it was in a larger cabinet and had around forty cams. It was used until 1992 when the police station was remodeled, but a couple of years ago I saw it sitting on a table in the fire station when I visited the tow...
