Any known things about the former system? I haven't found anything yet.

It appears to be a jailbar one too! (Change the size to "original" to easly see what looks like a grill in the horn)

What some people don't realize is that Chicago only had about 15-20 Tbolts. The rest were STL-10s and Model 5s. Most of the sirens were mounted atop FDs or Schools. I could be wrong, but I don't think there were any pole mounted sirens. All of the current sirens are mounted on poles, with the exception being the MOD6024 at the Jardine water treatment plant.

Hope this helps! :)

I once saw a JB t-bolt on a building at midway airport. I think it was some type of hangar.

Yeah, there was a picture on E-bay not too long ago of an STL-10 on a fire station. So it was not entirely a T-Bolt system.

I did a little digging later last night. According to another Flickr user, yes, indeed, Chicago's Thunderbolts were single tone. Some were 1000A and 1000B and most were jailbar style. Cool to see a few are still up in view; I wonder if they would be up for grabs by chance. There are photos of the one at former Engine Co. 102 (Now Fire Co. 1), one on a parking structure near the airport, and another by the airport as coop866 stated. Haven't found any remaining sirens as of yet, but I will definitely dig some more to find more of these gems!

edit: I found another one in utterly awful condition, complete with missing chopper cap.

That's cool. Chicago got some of Federals first thunderbolts. Thus explaining why that one is a tic-tac-toe horn. In addition to the tons of federals, they had five Chryslers and 5 Sirex's too. As far as I know there's one Sirex left in south side and a couple old ones scattered throughout the city.

Happy 1000th post! Wow, imagine how all those sound together. That would have to be scarier than Cushing, OK's system.
