eBay find, Thunderbolt... 2000?

Fri Jan 27, 2017 7:37 pm

So I was on eBay and came across this Thunderbolt in Phoenix. Everything was all well and good until I saw the tags. Blower tag says model 2000, volts 12-DC, 10.1 HP. So does the one on either the rotator box, or I suppose that could be the blower cover, but I didn't think they put them on the blower covers... I'm thinking maybe the tags were switched? And I'm saying that because there's no way in hell this thing runs off of 12VDC... What do you guys think?

Pheonix had some 2000 bolts that were converted into electric.

The Thunderbolt model 2000 was a model that was briefly available in the mid-50s, its designation 2000 represents a gasoline powered blower.
Also, I could believe the rotator and chopper motors being able to be powered off of 12VDC, they're not that power hungry.

$2500? Maybe if it was all original and hadn't been altered. And its a bit of a relief to see that horn has the same exact broken through stress cracks that my bar grille horn has. I guess its a relief because at least my horn isnt the only one like that.

Thanks guys, I'd heard of the 7000 series sirens but never the 2000 series. So if the chopper and rotator motors were in fact 12VDC, was there a small generator in the blower housing as well to power that? Or was that meant to come from another source? It just seems like an odd voltage requirement, the only thing that comes to mind would be an automotive application.

Not sure but if I am understanding your question right: the blower on the 2000 series was gaspowered.

I always assumed (that's assumed now) that the blower was driven by a gas engine/generator.
The generator powered the chopper rotator at the same time engine powered the blower.
The 12volt DC on that tag seems to me that would be the 12 volt battery that would be used to start the generator.
That's just my idea. I have some pics somewere of a 2000 that still had the gas engine in the blower.
They were probably taken by someone on the board years ago. I'll have to find them. You can't see much in the
pics because they were taken through a fence but the blower cover is partially open IIRC.

Here's the old thread about the 2000. It was in San Dimas. Pics are still up.

Sorry about the bump, but I just had to revisit to this listing and share the fact that the price has gone up to $5,500. Forgive my saying that the seller probably has more than one screw loose if he thinks he's gonna get $5k for that siren.
