Jefferson County, Missouri small town siren pics *update*

Wed Aug 29, 2007 4:06 pm

Here are some pics of sirens from small towns in Jefferson County, MO. I was hoping to find some older mechanical sirens, considering the small population and somewhat historic areas, but with no luck. Enjoy!

Yes, it is an ATI. They used to have an old system of Whelen 3016s.

Yes, that's an ATI. They replaced their old Whelen 3016's with these in April 2007. There is a total of 7 in the city limits. I've heard the monthly test tone which is a Westminster chime followed by a voice message. I was only about 1/4 mile away and I couldn't make out the voice and it sounded very distant.

Here is a picture of the new installation. Feel free to say "booo!" along with me.

Hey, Vortexofmisery, how about some pics from Desoto and Hillsboro? I know there's a Whelen 4003 (or 4004???) along Highway 21 near the Hillsboro fire station and a small grocrey store. Don't know the exact location. I was by there about 4 years ago and remember seeing it.

You won't find any mechanical sirens in Jeff County. All electronic, except if there are fire sirens that are mechanical, and that's it. The EMA Director of Jeff County has an interest in installing a massive siren system there but says it would cost too much money, mainly because of the hilly topography and the need for so many sirens. To that, I say how about floating a bond issue???

Too bad Arnold got ATI's. I wouldv'e liked to have seen ASC T-128's go in there, but as usual the low bid got it. :(

Yes, it is yellow, or was yellow at least until it went to siren heaven. They matched St. Louis County, Missouri Whelen 3016 sirens as well. One of my other posts deals with a faulty siren in St. Louis County which is yellow. This is a pic from the siren archive that shows a closeup example (Credit to Adam).

I thought so, but my eyes were confused.
