Modulator Sirens in Platteville, WI

Sat Jan 28, 2012 5:21 pm

I didn't catch the wind up, but as a siren fan I was fortunate to have this blast last me almost two minutes! Most likely sounding for a fire or accident in the country.

I would try to find out what Modulator it is, but doing my own research I see there are a ton of different versions.

The "choir" effect is kinda neat, hearing all modulators around my area wail at different times, police sirens screaming in the distance. It's just not the same as my hometown that has the great Thunderbolt and STH-10s.

That sounds more like an Omni-Directional Whelen, with the newest tone card.

No doubt that's a Whelen in wail. The tone peaks far too low to be a Mod.

Still...awesome awesome video. The chorus, as you put it, is awesome to listen to.

EDIT: Based on your description below, there's no doubt you've got Whelen omnis.

Here's some information for you, Mrs. Thunderbolt:

I'll have to get a picture sometime, but I know for sure the sirens here are black and are about double the height.

After browsing the .pdf file (thanks, commonsense!), can anyone tell me why the city of Platteville would have chosen this particular siren? I was thinking something to do with dynamics of the city, with a siren in about every corner, to also cover the surrounding farms.

They never use the voice warning on the siren, I always try to tell my boyfriend how weird it sounds

They probably put a spec for omnidirectional sirens, and whelen happened to be the low bidder.

Omni's work better for voice than directional sirens.
