Wilmington,il P-50 replaced

Mon Jul 14, 2014 4:54 pm

The P-50 in Wilmington has been replaced by a new T-135. It has happened in the past few days. I am assuming ours is next.

What else does Wilmington have, any smaller sirens?

Their might be one somewhere in a random neighborhood, but I highly doubt it. If I had room, I would really try to get their siren.

Part of the Dresden Nuclear Generating Station siren system, I assume?

There are T-128s on the outskirts of Wilmington and 2 T-135s to the north and northwest, but there are no other sirens in the town. And this P-50 was owned by Exelon and was actually part of both the Dresden and Braidwood plants. This leaves at most 5 P-50s left in the Dresden system. There are probably still 9 P-50s in the La Salle system, but who knows how long they'll last.

Funny, some of the P-50's in those systems were installed less than 10 years ago and are already being replaced...

Wow those must have been the last ones made before they were discontinued?

Either that or Fulton took them down and refurbished them (don't quote me on that)

I remember seeing the one on Route 6 and Gun Club Rd. near Morris when it was first installed, replacing a Thunderbolt. Man did the Thunderbolt look tiny. I wonder if that P-50 will still be there when I return to Illinois this fall.
