Federal Signal 508 with Cyclone Sounding in the Background

Mon Mar 30, 2015 10:39 am

Haven't recorded anything in a while so decided to get this one. The City of Amarillo replaced an SD-10 a few months ago with this 508. There is a Cyclone about 3/4 mile away towards the left and a 2001 about 1 mile behind us. Lots of coverage. On wind down and after it stops you can hear others too.

This is the siren it replaced.

I take it that the old sirens in Amarillo are slowly being replaced with 508s?

I remember seeing that SD-10 last time I was in Amarillo back in December of 2009. I have a couple of pictures of it as well.

I wonder if the motor kicked the bucket like on that 2T22 that used to be behind the Westgate mall, or if they just replaced it to get better coverage.

It seems that way. What's strange is these smaller sirens are being replaced with louder sirens making abundant overkill. There is a 508, Cyclone, and 2001 all within eye sight of each other. Love it!!

The 2T22 by Westgate mall was rebuilt and installed where an AL4000 was. And of course a 508 was put in its place. This one, per the EOC director, had the motor burn up. Don't know what they are going to do with it or the other 3 that were taken down as well as the Banshee that was also replaced by a 508.

Actually, the 2T22 behind Belmar Elementary was the one that replaced the Alertronic and had a 508 put in its place. The Westgate 2T22 is still there.

Y'all are talking about two different sirens in the same general area.
