Another 508 in Amarillo Tx

Mon Jun 01, 2015 12:01 am

Sorry for no pics, i don't have a good camera. The STL-10 by Amarillo College has been replaced, not sure when exactly but recently. Seems to be a trend recently with the old omnis around town. I'm sure more SD-10's will follow, likely the one near where i live. It hasn't sounded the last couple of times the system tested.
Down to a Thunderbolt chopper, still a few goofy flashlight-siren combos, and a Model L.

So is the general plan for Amarillo to eventually replace all the old sirens in the system with 508s? Seems like that's what is happening since quite a few different models are being replaced (SD-10, Banshee, STL-10, Thunderbolt, 2T22, AL-4000).

I suppose they can only keep these older sirens going for so long before radio and mechanical repair expenses start cropping up.

Seems to mainly be stuff of that ilk(old omnis), sad to see the banshee go, only one i know of in the panhandle except one in Claude, if it's still there. There is only one thunderbolt replaced, because of the building being renovated. The 2t22 was rebuilt and it replaced a sick Allertonic 4000 further southwest of town(the one you were referring to).

So that one ACA Alertronic 4000 that KDKsiren videoed that started out single time and switches to daul has been replaced? That's a shame, not too many dual toned Alertronics out there

There's another active one south of town that works somewhat well. At least the 2t22 is still kicking, there's a 2001 about 1/3 of a mile down the road from its new spot.

508's are popping up all over town. A T-bolt on N. Grand was replaced as well as a SD-10 just off of St. Francis off of N. Hwy 287. Yes the STL-10 by Amarillo College has also been replaced. The old sirens are at a storage place that I promised not to reveal. So please don't ask. Don't know what will become of them. Auction I presume. It is pretty cool that all these smaller sirens are being replaced with larger and louder ones. Lots of over coverage. And that's ok in my book!! As long as the Cyclones stay! :D Last I looked, there is only one Modulator left as well as one AL-4000. Still several T-bolts, SD-10's, 2T22's, 2001's and STL-10's left also. But the map is a changing quickly. And louder as well!
