Hi SuperBanshee, loved your topic and really appreciate the info gained from it. I was born about a stones throw away from where the Mobil Directo was built in Milwaukee. Wish I knew then what I know now as I own the Wisconsin powered siren that Jerry Wick took pictures of in my shop some years ago already. I've been restoring this siren for the past fifteen years on and off and your story is making me think of getting it back off the shelf and getting my a** in gear to get it finished by this Fourth of July- my goal about ten years ago . All she needs is some bodywork on the sheet metal and a paint job...and a horn which wasn't around when we rescued it . P.S. Jerry Wick , from my last contact is now happily married, a homeowner and living in North Dakota with his lovely wife.

Great to hear from you again. I'll be sending another private message with more details regarding the horn's reconstruction. It'd be cool to see the Mobil Directo as a restored siren.

I haven't spoken to Jerry in a while, might have to drop him a line later. Seems like it was only yesterday when we were hunting down sirens in rural Wisconsin - time really flies.

Civil Defense sirens tended to be very costly. Often, the city would split the cost with CD matching funds.
If a siren did not meet the specifications set out for CD matching funds, then the city would have to buy it on their own.
