r4tbolts wrote:josh555, I have seen those or similar in Michigan a very long time ago. Glen Arbor FD (near Traverse City) had a setup close to that back in the late 60's. I actually heard a noon blast on it which was a single ear piercing tone. Saw close to the same you have pictured around Mt. Pleasant, MI in the early 80's. Sorry I can't tell you who made them.
One of those is still standing here in Mt. Pleasant actually, and it has been determined to be a Whelen WS-1000 series.

josh555, Interesting one is still standing. The three locations I remember seeing them were Downtown Mount Pleasant, South end of Old 27 by CMU, and by the Road Commission Garage going West out of town on M-20.

Where did you see the one by the campus? There is now a WPS-4004 by the radio radio tower on the south end of the CMU campus, which is the closest I could think of to where you described. Here is the link to the one still standing:

I wonder why they didn't take this one down in particular, given that all the others were taken down and replaced.

josh555, On a light tower by an Athletic field (not the CMU Football Stadium) on the Eastside of Old 27. south of Broomfield. I don't think the field is there anymore. This was back in the 80's. Might not have actually been on Campus I don't know the actual boundary of CMU.

On a different note, Remus had a pole mounted yellow Model 5 with the CD emblem back in that time too at the Remus FD. One more siren, I believe is a Model 5 was at the front of a Cemetery on the Westside of Mecosta.

It seems as though both of those Model 5s are still standing, too.

And you are right, if there was any athletic field in the location you described, it has probably been turned into apartments by now

Anybody know what this thing is? It's dual tone, and it doesn't have a shroud.

I got to go back out to Berry college recently, and I noticed a set of loudspeakers on the Ford Buildings. I don't think that this would be used for chimes since there is not a church nearby and it is most likely out of service since there is a new I-Force about 100 feet from this building. My best guess at what this would be is an Edwards Audalert siren, since the largest fallout shelter in Floyd County, GA was under the ford buildings and this is a college campus (post about the Floyd County Civil Defense here)
