Do fire departments name their sirens?

Sat Jun 02, 2007 11:07 pm

I want to name our Federal Signal 2t22 "Tootie".
But everyone else calls her Lassie - after the girl who howls in Porky's. (I've never seen the movie.)

What would you name a siren?

Robert, do yourself a favor and watch the UNCUT version of "Porky's" It's a great movie! Then you'll see what they mean by the Lassie comment (and a naked Kim Catrell).

Anyway, not fire department sirens with names-related, but does ASC still refer to the T-128 as "Big Mouth?" At least that used to be on their old website awhile back.

The T-135(generations 1 and 2) is known as "The Monster" look at the PDF for the T-135 and look for the Nickname.
Federal Signal Thunderbolt Series, still the King of Air Raid Sirens!

I know ASC had a mascot at one time called Earl E Warning. He was a dude with a T-128 for a head (they even had a little drawing of him "sounding" with a 2001 and I think a 4003/4 running away in fear). I think they even called the T-128 "big mouth" at one time. and of course Chryslers are called Big Joes, and there was "Big Bertha" the Chrysler prototype. When I was little I use to refer to T-bolts simply as "that siren" and the local Model 5s as the "fire whistle".

I've never heard any firefighters have a special name for their siren other than the "fire whistle", but I know many stations will paint their station number or the color of their apparatus on their sirens (one's such as model 5's).
