Orland Park, IL P10/15 Sirens Replaced

Mon Dec 26, 2022 4:57 am

Hi everyone, Merry Christmas. It’s been a while since I posted, but thought it worthwhile to post an update on Orland Park’s system.

It appears all P10/15 sirens have been or are in the process of being replaced with FS2001-130s. The older 2001 by Centennial School appears to have also been replaced by a 2001-130 2 blocks East at Wolf Rd and Brigitte Terrace. The older 2001 is still standing.

The ACAs at Heritage Park and Perminus Park are gone, with 2001-130s in their spot. The P10 at Jerling Junior High is still standing, but there is a 2001-130 right next to it. When I checked a few weeks ago, the P15 at the Public Works Building was still up, but with a 2001-130 next to it. I haven’t been able to check on the other P10/15 sirens but I imagine they’re all replaced, too.

I’m a bit surprised they went with Federal since they replaced one of the P15s at Wolf Road and Brook Hills Dr. with a T128 within the past year or so and put the T128 up by Sandburg High School a few years back. Definitely a shame to see them go, as they’ve been around for probably 40ish years.

Does anyone have any additional info on the replacements?

Also, is it known what's happening to the older sirens? Hopefully they get sold off

Yeah, Penetrator sirens are getting rarer and rarer considering the newest models (RM-127/130) are going on 20+ years old now.

Simple answer is bidding. If a gov agency has to replace a part of a total system, like 1 siren, they can waive competitive bidding and buy the new equivalent of what was there. Same when they added the siren at Sandburg. But when they want to replace the rest of the sirens, it has to go out to bid. This is more than likely what happened and Braniff won the bid.

I was in orland today. I’m guessing every single siren will be replaced with a 2001. The t128 by the water tower at Sandburg is gone, it’s a 2001 now. Looks like it might be the same pole. The p15 on 151st is still there today, with a new 2001 nearby. I found some bidding documents that said they were going to replace 14 sirens and add a 15th.
