LA Allertor's

Wed Sep 05, 2007 9:30 am

Has anyone ever heard the LA CA Allertors/Mobile-Directos. I want to know which port they were 10/12 or 9/12 like the 500T's as ACA Used Federal rotors/Stators in 10/12 port in there sirens made in the 50's and early 60's.
late 60's early 70's ACA used 8/12 and than around 1973 it was 9/12
the 8/12 & 9/12 were made by ACA

I have, and wish I could remember better... The LA County Allertors were only in Culver City, as far as I know. Last time I heard one was circa 1977 when I had a friend in elementary school who moved to Culver City near the Allertor on top of the Veterans' Memorial Swimming Pool bldg. I remember that it was a more resonant "growly" tone than the SD-10s and 500ATs. The Allertors are still there, and still hooked up. But, like the other cities' sirens in LA, haven't been blown since the 80s. If I didn't think I'd get arrested, I'd pop the box open on the Braddock Drive Allertor and give the button a poke :P

Yes, that's a real 500-lb Federal SD-10 I'm holding (braggart!)
