A new siren coming up...

Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:01 am

I blame the SD-10 near Kamiloiki Elementary for spurring my siren interest since I was a kid. The SD-10 faithfully sounded every first working day of the month at 11:45am: terrorizing all but a select few children at lunchtime and recess.

It was early 2006 that I drove by, the SD-10 was gone, and C.D. said the pole was rotten and would be replaced with a new pole along with a new siren.

Jan 7th 2008. Something finally happened: don't know if it's going to be a Modulator or a DSA. More pictures & monthly activation video to follow...I'll try and get an initial test video if I can too.

What's really cool is seeing the old CD logo sticker on a brand new siren control box!

It looks like they're using the discontinued Federal MCP boxes instead of the Ultra-Voice. I don't see why though.

I hate to suggest this but that might be an ATI going up. Those control boxes look just like ATI's plus the solar panels. God i hope not!!

Those are Federal Signal control boxes. Hawaii's Civil Defense agency would never choose ATI garbage.
Federal Signal Thunderbolt Series, still the King of Air Raid Sirens!

I'd use ATI controls, but not ATI sirens.

Those boxes look exactly like an ATI control box, I was standing next to one this weekend in Nashville and that is exactly the box and the solar panel that the one i was checking out up there. It didn't have the "CD" sticker on it, that was the only difference.

Half the problem, if not most of the problem with ATIs is the controls. That's where the tones come from, why signals aren't recieved, and the cause for most of the failures.

Also, Federal, ATI, and basically no siren company makes their own control cabinets, only what's inside the boxes. ATI and Federal probably happened to have used the same control cabinets.

ATI actually quit using the two cabinet controls a few years back. Now, they use a single cabinet control with two compartments for the amplifier and the batteries.
