Faraday vibratory horns, anyone?

Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:13 am

This past weekend I bought a couple Faraday products, a vibratory horn and a siren that appears to be a rebrand of a Federal Model A. That deserves its own thread.

Anyway, the horn is a 128-U and it's in mint condition. A fairly large and sturdy looking device. Not sure of the pitch but it's on the low side. I'll get pics and more details when I have the chance.

Anyone familiar with these? What's it worth, anyway? I'm not big into horns or buzzers for the most part.

A certain number of Simplex horns were made by Faraday, and so were some of Wheelock's electronic sounders.

Was this the twin-horn model that was on Ebay?

No, this has a single short flare protruding from the front. Got it from a local guy.

I've seen those. They look like a cut off verson of my 110 VAC Faraday Type 2

probably sounds like it too. If you're going to set it off if you haven't already check the voltage first. if the tag says "12 VAC" it's 12 VAC not 120VAC. If it says 110 VAC all you'll need is a lamp plug, if it's 12 VAC you'll need an AC transformer to run it. Be warned, it's going to be very loud.

Mine has a similar body, but the horn base is much larger is diameter. 110V. Only about 2" long though. I'll have to listen again to be sure but I think it sounds a lower tone than yours.
