HOR Super Sirex in Holyoke MA

Sun Jun 08, 2008 6:37 pm

This was a double suprise. 1, there's an active Super Sirex active with in driving distance from me, and 2, it seems to be privatly owned. Located at the Wherehouse resturant. One note of warning, the cameraman obviously has never heard of keeping the camera still and focused on the subject being filmed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGUrM19BnJ8 It's tested according to the video discription weekly. I smell a roadtrip in the works.

Very good siren. Notice it has a board just below it that says "AIR RAID SIREN". :D This one looks like it should be rotating, though. They might have disabled the rotator for obvious reasons. But still, a very nice siren video. It isn't THAT bad in terms of how the camera shakes, you know. ;)

Nice, strange that it is a museum piece but is still tested and in active duty.

this thing sounds very slightly like a whelen, if you take away the first 3 seconds of the wind up, and keep the first 5 seconds of the wind down

I'm still waiting for some Australian to surface with a video of one of those rotating sirens from WWII. I don't know if any still exist.
