It's unusual for a directional siren to have its rotation disabled, but the Thunderbolt's rotator can be disabled manually by a switch in the motor starter cabinet. The operator would set the rotator to "Manual" until the horn reaches the desired position, then the switch would be moved to "Off." For normal operation with the rotator activated, it would be set to "Auto."

As for the Hurricane, I'm unsure as to whether the rotator could be disabled by a switch as well.

Well, it sure looks too close to the cable race to clear.

It probably would hit it. I doubt if that siren has run in the last 20 years.
Looks like those cables were put there long after the siren was.
Dad, what does that CD mean on that big yellow horn? Well son, I believe it stands for Cyclone Device......

If i remember correctly, 30 years. Didnt Adam say they had Allertors
or something? I cant remember. But yeah, those cables were definitely
installed after the siren was put out of commission.

So, where is this siren?

Could I purchase it and donate it to a trailer park filled with poor immigrants, illegal and otherwise, in the plains about 25 miles east of Denver?

Could it be hauled in an Expedition?

If anyone has advice or contacts, please tell me.

Thank you,

It has already been discussed that thissiren is going no where.
the city themsleves are not even granted access to this tower.

Even if they could get it down, it probably doesnt work

Who said anything about getting permission?
See: 'Yantai, China siren test - no arrests'

I'd go at night.
The same as when I was going on a space mission to the sun.
Everyone warned, "You'll burn up!"
"You dummies." I said. "I'll go at night!"

Would be worth getting it down and trying to get it to work.
These people have absolutely no warning.
Wish Centralia were not so far from Denver.

How the heck would you get it down if

A. there is most likely a fence around the tower

B. you'd have to climb up and disconnect everything

C. you'd need a crane. I fidn it hard to believe that
the people of a town wont notice a huge loud crane in the middle
of the night.

About the No warning part, Centralia obviously has other sirens,
allertors if i remember correctly. Most towns in Illinois have sirens
because of being close to/in tornado alley.

Your insane...

well, heres what you could do to take it out in the middle of the night,

1000 lb boat winch, some chain to connect to a beam, and some long nylon towrope to gradually take it down

portable oxy/acent. torch to cut the standpipe and any other mounting bolts off quickly.

high voltage gloves

safety line and harness (just in case)

heheheh, there you go

What?
Is it THAT heavy?

Also, I did not realize the tower is surrounded by a fence.

In that case, wear a hardhat and appropriate gear and do it all in BROADAYLIGHT - looking like I belong there.

Is the blower not on the ground withe pipe going into the tower?

I'd first secure the head and remove the horn.
Then apply penetrating oil and UNbolt everything so no torch is needed'
Then cut the pipe at the head, or unscrew it if possible.
Then lower the freed head to the ground.

Then tie the pipe and unscrew each section and lower it a section at a time. I work for a tree company so know how to securely tie the pipeso they don't slip out.

Then work on disassembling the blower.
I assume it can be disassembled into manageable parts.

I should have been clearer: I was refering to the POOR TRAILER PARK which has no warning whatsoever.

Thanks
