According to Federal Signal, I was told that these sirens were designed back in the mid 1950s and that Federal only made like 45 of these sirens, before they discontinued the model in 1961

The places I have seen these sirens, either in person or through pictures online would be: Calhan, CO; Colorado Springs (area), CO; St. Louis County, MO; Yonkers, NY; Newark, NJ.

The St. Louis County one has already been posted in this forum, but I cannot remember if I ever posted the one I got a picture of in Newark. here it is: (sorry for the ultra crappy quality...it was a drive-by on a rainy day)

Yes, Adam, you posted that one before.
Thank you.

Are the relectors the same size?
Or sized for their pitches?

From the 500s I've seen in LA County, the reflectors look exactly like the uppermost shroud of a Model 5 housing. I would assume also that the cone reflectors on the wider 500s as well as the 550s are made using a similar concept to save costs. (aka 2T22 cap being top of Model 2 housing)

If you can, go back and get a better pic... I'm truely interested.
The siren in (Colorado Springs area) is located in Manitou Springs, located four miles west of Colorado Springs. They are a separate municipality, and unfortunately, they do not test their siren.
Still close enough to a Fed Sig 550AT to drive out on test day: First Friday in May - 7PM!

I do have to wonder why these weren't very common, as they're quite effective.

Is that siren still there? Where is it in St. Louis?

Now in Google StreetView:

Might have to pan left a little, but the siren is plainly obvious above the building tops.
