Thunderbolt 2000

Tue Apr 28, 2009 12:02 pm

Does anyone know of any Thunderbolt 2000s in service or maybe have a picture of a decomissioned one? Someone had mentioned one in the 2001 series thread and sparked my curiosity. :D

There is one in Los Angeles that was found by soundoff or kx250rider, I can't remember which one exactly. I have a few pics of it saved to my computer but I'll let them post their pics since they found it.

I spotted it, and then Soundoff went out there and spent time, getting GREAT pictures. It's in an alley just east of San Dimas Avenue, and north of Arrow Route in San Dimas. It's still there, as of a few months ago. It's sitting on a piece of county-owned property where a Los Angeles County sheriffs' office was. There's still an active fire station on the same lot. The siren is definitely out of service, but I don't think there are any plans to fell it, as is happening in Dallas.

I haven't checked other old LA County Sheriffs' office locations in the East County area, and I wonder if that isn't the only 2000? I can't imagine them only installing one. I'll try to get a list of other sheriffs' offices in that area, and post. There should be at least 5 or 6 others. Other districts served by the LA Sheriff have Chryslers. The West Hollywood station had one. I pass the Malibu one regularly, but it's kind of off the highway. I'll go check it this week.

Yes, that's a real 500-lb Federal SD-10 I'm holding (braggart!)

Look for gas powered Thunderbolt, I think that was the name of the post.
