Denver Int'l Airport 2001s

Fri Jun 05, 2009 7:41 pm

Ok, so I went to the airport yesterday to pick up my grandpa coming home from St. Louis. When I was going east on Pena, I noticed 2 2001 sirens along the road. This is the first time I have ever seen a 2001 in person. I was wondering, whats the difference between the 2001-130, SRNB, and all other types? I know the difference between 2001 DC and AC, its obvious from the name. Also, these ones didn't have the FS stickers on the cone.

Denver Intl Airport has 9 2001s. The ones I've seen are the older ones that have a different cone than the current 2001s, and have a screen on the horn. I'm not sure if they're ACs or DCs, because I've never payed attention to see if there was a battery cabinet on the pole or not.
Resident of a county with big a mixture of sirens, but in the process of being replaced. :(

2001DC - Original 2001. The earlier models had the rear intake housing with the rounded top with a hinge and latch to access the brushes and intake. Up until the late 1990s, the 2001DC had the screen at the mouth of the horn and a small, straight motor cover cone. That was switched out with a rounded cone which featured a small FS logo and the horn screen was moved to the back of the horn. The rotator design was carried over from the Thunderbolt series.

2001SRN - I'm honestly not sure of the difference here with the exception of a smaller rear intake housing.

2001SRNB - The rotator was replaced with a more maintenence friendly gear driven design. The output rating was also raised from 127dB @ 100' to 128. The later models had a large FS on the cone.

2001-130 - The airflow was redirected with a taller intake housing which raised the output to 130dB @ 100'.

As far as the 2001AC. I'm questioning how whether there is such a thing because the 2001 to my knowledge has always used DC motors and had a transformer that converted AC power to DC. I could be way off, but that's what I'm thinking at this point.

These look like the ones I saw, but they didn't have any stickers on them, just plain white. Thanks for the info, Ive never really studied about 2001's.

The difference between the 2001 AC and DC seems obvious from the names, hehehe. I actually have seen the original 2001 before, on a side road next to an SD-10, but I didn't know what it was at the time, and it was dark outside. It was about 1-2 years ago. I was surprised just going by these things how much bigger they look in person than in pictures!

It's still a DC siren, it just has an inverter on it. Bibb county has a bunch of those.

Really?

This says there's an AC version.

And even on the 2001-130 page on Federal's website says it can be purchased AC only.

Just as I said, it's a DC siren with an inverter. There is no AC motor 2001.

ALL 2001's are DC powered. AC only means it has an AC/DC converted (as pictured above) and no battery backup.

Are the T-128's and the new T-135 ac/dc designed the same way?
