Thunderbolts painted different colors

Sat Aug 29, 2009 3:25 am

I saw an old civil defense film that showed a thunderbolt painted yellow with black stripes and an ad for the thunderbolt with one painted red with black stripes were those just demo units or were they painted like that when the Thunderbolts were first produced?

Hmmm you must be talking about the Lets face it video. The Thunderbolt in the video was first painted Black and yellow for a short time until switching to solid CD yellow. For the ads im not sure why they are colored that way. Maybe to catch the attention of buyers.

We've also seen Thunderbolts painted white, gray, and blue, but I think those were all yellow originally, and some could've been painted, and I think the ones that are white and/or gray may have possibly been faded from the sun. I heard somebody say once that Columbus, Ohio had some that were yellow, and the sun faded the paint to make them look either white or gray.

Interesting video. Is it the original Black and yellow or did you paint it that way?

way back when, a two-color print was a lot cheaper than a four-color (CMYK) print.

A couple of the Chicago suburbs painted their Thunderbolts green and brown. This was so they would blend in with the trees. However, they were easy to spot in the wintertime.
