Pope County Illinois Tornado Video with 2001 in Attack

Wed Sep 27, 2006 1:51 am

I found this video while browsing around Stormtrack.org. It is from this past Friday's tornado outbreak across the mid-Mississippi valley. This particular tornado is located in Pope County Illinois and was filmed by a guy camping in the area. For those of you wondering, the river pictured is the Ohio River. It is definitely an ominous video if you ask me, especially with the 2001 blaring away.

**The video is the third link down.

For some reason I'm getting sound only, no picture, just black. I can hear the guy who was filming it talking about what he's seeing, the 2001 blaring in the background and that's it. :x

I know that there is a new version of WMP out that oyu can download. It could be that you do not have a fully compatible version of WMP. If it helps, the type of music file it is is an ".asp" file.

Those 2001s seem to be getting higher in pitch. If I didn't know that it was rotating, I could have mistaken it for an old Sterling.

I know that for a fact! The 2001 over here sounds right at 675Hz. That's what a model 5 sounds. It isn't a '96 model, but it isn't a series-B either.

I'd say the 2001s pitch is getting closer to that of a single toned Modulator.

Seems to me that they should be trying to lower the pitch of the sirens instead of making it higher pitch, the higher they make it the less effective it becomes at long distances.

True, but the less effective and more 'attention seeking' the sound is, the more the sirens will sell. I'd say that's why the pitch is so high.

Edit:
Wow, never before heard a 2001 outside a test. This really puts the 'we better duck for cover' factor into it.
