Barrington, IL EOWS*612, "whoop" signal

Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:37 am

Found this a little while ago... An EOWS*612 doing a rare "Whoop" signal. Further proof that Federal never should have stopped making these things :)

I love all of the SiraTone series signals, but in all honesty, it's probably one of the most unreliable sirens. I wish there were modern sirens that used these exact tones. They have to be the spookiest electronic siren. Unlike the Modulator which kinda sounds too much like a slide whistle.

I'll bet this sounds crazy from a distance.

Siratones were rushed into production and they never quite worked all of the bugs out of them. At least that was the way Clayton explained it to me if I understood it correctly. I've noticed in a few YT videos that some of the early modulators had the same sound cards and signal selections that the EOWS series sirens had.

That's my video. :P I've only heard that EOWS do the whoop signal once, in that video. I have heard it do Attack a couple of times. There is another EOWS behind Barrington High School that is in bad shape. The tones are all messed up - possibly collector rings?

It also could be the tone generator.
